Spring In My Step

AT LAST! Spring has sprung in New York and I couldn’t be more excited to see charming old towns come back to life after a long winter. Come along with me & Jonas to the Nyack street fair filled with loads of fun vendors, enchanted boutiques, and a Victorian house cafe on the most gorgeous spring day!

This is literally the first time in MONTHS that I’ve worn lashes, lipstick, and the best part…FLATS!!! Farewell, snow boots and winter coats!

nyack spring fair_wm (2)

I finally felt a “spring” in my step again as the warm sunshine kissed my face this weekend. Oh, the wonderful feeling of curling your hair and letting it blow in the soft breeze. I’m thrilled that it’s hair scarf weather again, I knew I had to bust out my nifty 50’s scarf in “white” for such an occasion!

nyack spring fair_wm (3)

When I saw the forecast for a warm weekend I knew it was time again to reach for my white and red poppy dress that I found at a Goodwill in Virginia last spring. I paired it with another lucky New York Goodwill find with this black and white lace cardigan with the cutest little pearl details.

nyack spring fair_wm (4)

I was never much of a floral kind of gal until the last few years when my whole heart longed to be bathed in flowers and sunshine. Now, I have my eye on a quite a few floral novelty print dresses, hope to snag some soon and be able to dress on the outside what I’m feeling on the inside!

nyack spring fair_wm (5)

The first snowdrops and crocus have started popping up around Buxton Cottage and I’m so thrilled to watch the spring awaken around our vintage home. Speaking of vintage homes, it was so fun stumbling across the Edward Hopper House & Art Center. A realist painter whose work inspired Alfred Hitchcock in films such as “Psycho”!

nyack spring fair_wm (6)

I love that there is so much historic everywhere we go in this part of colonial America. I can’t wait to keep exploring it and plan more fun adventures as we head into summer. What about you, have you any fun fair weather plans?

Wishing all fresh inspiration and to feel that “spring” in your step again! Bye For Now,

GOTHIC VALENTINE WINTER OOTD + Sourpuss Clothing Dress Review!

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-1

Curiouser & curiouser…

Here’s my gothic take on a wintery Valentine’s day OOTD featuring the “Fatally Yours” dress provided by Sourpuss Clothing which is perfect for us spooky gals who aren’t into pink and Valentine’s Day!

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-8

As soon as I saw this dress it made me think of the Queen of Hearts and Tim Burton’s Wonderland style and I knew how I wanted to style it! This dress could be done up in so many ways but since it’s still wintertime here in New York and Valentine’s day is around the corner I thought it’d be fitting to do a romantic gothic retro look.

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_bw_wm-8

This style of dress is new to Sourpuss and I can’t even express the wonderful feeling I had when I zipped up this XL and it fit like a glove! I really adore the gathered material on the bust area, it’s so flattering for my figure.

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-6

The hearts & daggers design was created by a Philly tattoo artist and the print even has tiny hearts and stars which is a very unique touch. The anatomic hearts are adorable and the daggers have a very classic feel to it.

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-9It comes with a built in waistband that looks like you’re already wearing a belt. I of course always feel the need to add a vinyl one of my own but it looks just as nice without it.

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-2

I really adore the length of the dress, how it comes to the knees, and has a fun mesh lining which I’ve never seen on a dress before. The dress is 100% polyester, has the softest feeling, and I love how it flows as you walk…so light and has a little stretch!

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-4

Now let’s talk about how I styled this rocking dress! My black velvet vintage style turban with diamond shaped vintage silver brooch with black onyx center is my go to in the winter. Both items I found separately on Etsy.

My gothic lolita coat is from Pyon Pyon which I ordered from Restyle.pl while I was living in Sweden and I have done a whole review on it + some winter fashion tips I picked up which you can see HERE.

My lovely pen pal friend from Germany (@ladydewilde on Instagram) sent me these charming handmade “Alice in Wonderland” jewelry which turned out to the the crowning touch to this outfit. The earrings say “Curiouser & Curiouser” and the necklace, “We’re All Mad Here”. I mean, how serendipitous is that?!

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-7

My husband & I really lucked out with finding the perfect shooting location to fit the mood I had envisioned. Lasdon Park nailed it with it’s twisty trees and old statues.

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_bw_wm-6

Later that evening I changed up my outfit details in the car since we were attending a black & white winter gala where Jonas’ “Sleepy Hollow” & “Red Riding Hood” art was on display. I realized that I too was wearing art and oh, how that red POPPED against all the b&w!

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-10

Hope this review of the new Sourpuss Clothing dress was helpful and that you got some outfit inspiration for your Valentine’s day whether that be with your gal pals, man, or even alone. Know that you’re awesome no matter what your relationship status is! Bye For Now,

Halloween in Salem + Witch City LookBook

Hello dearies! My dream came true of going to Salem on HALLOWEEN!!! My husband & I always combine our birthday festivities with Halloween since they are all within 4 days of each other, but we have never traveled for Halloween weekend before and we had the most amazing adventures in Connecticut & Massachusetts!

My 30th birthday was spent in Mystic, Connecticut in search of wee faerie villages with my Workaway family and of course a stop at Mystic Pizza!

salem-lookbook_wm-1

On Jonas’ birthday we went to Boston for a tea party and to see the pumpkins he carved for Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns! You can see all our birthday adventures on Tales of Sheaves (COMING SOON) but on my blog I’m going to be talking all about SALEM!!!

salem-lookbook_wm-4

Ever since I first saw Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” I KNEW I one day I had to go to Salem in search of the Sanderson Sisters and the epic filming locations! On the Saturday night before Halloween we ventured into Witch City and it was the most magical experience (even after trying to find a free place to park for 1 hour).

salem-lookbook_wm-2

The first filming location we spotted was The Ropes Mansion and I gasped to behold it’s beauty in real life! It was the home of Max’s crush, Allison, and where her family put on the most fancy Halloween party. Speaking of parties, the Salem Old Town Hall was the location for the party Max’s parents almost “danced until they died” when Winifred sang her bewitching version of “Put A Spell On You” with her sisters.

salem-lookbook_wm-3

On Halloween day we got to explore a few more locations just outside of Salem. We found the “Hocus Pocus House” (Max’s house) at 8 Ocean Avenue. It was fun to see so many fans of the film stopping to snap a photo in their costumes and even chatting with others there. I truly felt the spirit of Halloween there!

salem-lookbook_wm-8

Our favorite filming location was at the Old Burial Hill in Marblehead, Ma. It’s one of New England’s oldest cemeteries and has the most stunning view over the water.

salem-lookbook_wm-6

We found the very graves where Jay & Ice met Max and bullied him into giving them his new shoes.

salem-lookbook_wm-5

It’s a lovely spot for an autumn stroll!

salem-lookbook_wm-7

I of course had to strut my favorite bat skirt from Sourpuss Clothing and as night fell upon All Hallow’s Eve I transformed my Halloween day outfit into a witchy night look!

All I had to do was switch my creepers and hat to pointy ones! Threw over my newly thrifted find of the century (this gorgeous black coat) and I was set for a cold Halloween night in Salem!

salem-lookbook_wm-10We stopped by the House of Seven Gables before nightfall and even had a few people want to take photos of us. Funny, because I was basically wearing my “normal clothes” with a few tweeks, just goes to show what the right accessories can do!

salem-lookbook_wm-11

I hope you enjoyed seeing my witchy wardbrobe for Halloween weekend + all the amazing “Hocus Pocus” filming locations!!!

salem-lookbook_wm-9

We had the time of our lives being in Salem for Halloween and I’m glad we could bring you along for the adventures! Until next time, bye for now!

Tomorrow Is Another Day

When in Georgia on a historic farm I couldn’t help but throw together a “Gone With The Wind” inspired photo shoot!gone with the wind_wm (10)

The farmhouse at Mountain Laurel Farm was something out of my old fashioned southern dreams. Jonas & I were lucky enough to stay and volunteer here for 2 months this spring!

gone with the wind_wm (4)

Our host had this scarlet red dress that she insisted I use for a photo shoot! I put together a flower crown with red roses that were part of the wedding decorations at the venue.

gone with the wind_wm (1)

Jonas was gifted this oh so dapper suit and vest by our host’s mother, she sure knows our style!

gone with the wind_wm (9)

For these photos, I of course took inspiration from “Gone With The Wind” but with a gothic twist!

gone with the wind_wm (2)

I could totally imagine a real southern gothic wedding like this and I wish I had the opportunity to do more bridal styling. I still dream of having my own wedding business someday!

gone with the wind_wm (8)

Doing research for this I was reminded of some beautiful quotes from “Gone With The Wind” that truly resonate with me in this season of my life.

gone with the wind_wm (3)

“After all, tomorrow is another day!”

gone with the wind_wm (5)

As Jonas & I have been traveling for the last 6 months searching for where feels like home for us, I’m truly thankful each day and have learned to live life to the fullest!

gone with the wind_wm (6)

We’ve had some heart breaking disappointments but we’re always thankful for a new day, a new start.

MEDIEVAL VIKING FAIRE + OOTD IN SWEDEN! {Söderköpings Gästabud}

BEHOLD! The long lost vlog of a trip to Söderköpings Gästabud, a medieval faire in Sweden! I originally recorded this with Jonas 3 years ago to be one of our first vlogs for Tales of Sheaves when we had just started making videos of our adventures for YouTube!

I’m pretty sure it never saw the light of day until now because that very weekend my beloved cat Samson passed away back home in California, and I was absolutely devastated to have not been there with him.

söderköping_wm

I came across this abandoned footage recently and realized it was perfect for my channel, medieval  goth inspired outfit included! I sure do love a good viking faire and this time travel was a welcome distraction from grieving my dear best furry friend.

söderköping (1)

I’m a bit embarrassed of how awkward we are in the video, we really didn’t know how to vlog, not that we do now 😉 but we are so much more comfortable in front of the camera now. Hope you enjoy going back in time with me to the middle ages!

Embracing Change

Hello dearies! My #LindsayofSheaves YouTube channel was long overdue for an update video, hope you enjoying hanging out with me in the enchanted forest where I share what’s been on my mind and heart lately!
I’ve been learning to embrace change and what makes me unique in every season of my life. Jonas & I have sure had a lot of adventures (and some misadventures) and in all or travels and life changes I’ve come to want to embrace what life is teaching me in that season. I like to reflect that also in how I dress even if I’m switching up my style from faerie to retro to goth to country…or a mix of all of those! Who’s to say you aren’t supposed to do that?!
embrace change_grid (1)
Also thought it’d be fun to  share photos of some of my fashion journey thus far in hopes of inspiring you to have fun with your style and don’t worry about what others may think, just be one-of-a-kind YOU! I’ve had fun with all kinds of styles from my punk rock high school days to my glam metal hair-styling phase. Around the time of my wedding I started to enjoy wearing dresses, something I had never done before!
embrace change_grid (2)
Living in Sweden brought out the faerie and medieval viking in me. In California I enjoyed vamping it up and getting a taste of the retro/vintage world with a splash of Disney style! In the south I had fun being a country girl and visiting Sweden in the summer has brought out the mermaid in me.
embrace change_grid (3)
So glad to be posting this update video in case you’ve been wondering what happened to my #roadtoretro series and why the focus has shifted to different things on my social media! Thanks so much to everyone who’s been following along on my crazy adventures around the world and with fashion, it means so much to have you along for the ride! Hope to continue to have you along for the adventures and remember that you are beautiful and one of a kind! Dare to dream and have fun in all seasons of life!! Bye For Now,

6 RETRO GOTH OUTFITS ACROSS AMERICA! {U.S.A. Road Trip Lookbook}

SURPRISE!?! I moved from the WEST COAST to the EAST COAST of America! It was sudden yet not at the same time and there is a video + blog post all about it on Tales of Sheaves explaining more. So sorry for the silence on my blog + YouTube channel, but it feels good to be back! I hope this video + photos of the 6 retro goth inspired outfits I wore on our epic U.S.A. road trip makes up for my absence!

usa roadtrip lookbook_thumbnail

In the process of moving, my husband & I took decided to take a once in a lifetime epic road trip across the United States and I thought it’d be fascinated to document my outfits and changing landscapes of America the Beautiful along the way. I had fun putting together different looks from the clothes I packed that would fit each location! I’d love to know which is your favorite?!

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (1)

{OLD WEST} Our first stop was in Old Tucson, Arizona which felt like we had time traveled to the old west and into my favorite John Wayne western “Rio Bravo” which was actually filmed here! You know I had to put together a neo-victorian steampunk outfit for such an occasion.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Black Lace Parasol-eBay // Hair Clip-Bonita Bellita on Etsy // Frilled Black Blouse-Savers // Brown Lace Belt-eBay // Black Lace Layered Dress-eBay // Black & White Striped Leggings-eBay // Black Boots

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (2)

{MY BIG ADVENTURE} Next stop, THE ALAMO, Texas! Yes, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure brought us here to find the basement and *might* have inspired my outfit but I learned so much about the history and that even Davey Crockett died there in the great battle.

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (3)

OUTFIT DETAILS: Vintage Style Red Hair Scarf-Doll Me Up // Cat Eye Sunglasses // Chevron Print Dress-DD’s Discounts // Black Tights // TUK Creepers

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (4)

{SOUTHERN MERMAID} In Lake Charles, Louisiana we got to hold baby alligators and swooned over the beautiful southern mansions on the lake front so I thought this goth pinup urban mermaid look was fitting.

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (5)

OUTFIT DETAILS: Red Mermaid Pearl Hair Clip-Bonita Bellita on Etsy // Cat Eye Sunglasses // Black Mermaid Shells Crop Top-Adorkable Appearel // Boho Maxi Dress  // Studded Sandels-Payless

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (6)

{FRENCH GARDEN} New Orleans was somewhere I have always dreamed of going! The French Quarter was loud with jazz music and wildly crowded with tourists and all kinds of people.  We really enjoyed the beignets and gumbo soup and looking at all the beautiful architectural details. However, the Garden District was by far my favorite place we visited on our trip. We strolled along streets and streets of gorgeous historic southern mansions that were from my old-fashioned dreams.

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (7)

OUTFIT DETAILS: Hair Clip-Bonita Bellita on Etsy // Maroon Blouse-Savers // Velvet Flocked Skirt // Black Tights // Shoes-TUK Footwear

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (8)

{MONTGOMERY ON SUNDAY} We drove into downtown Montgomery, Alabama on a Sunday to find it completely deserted, except for the families leaving an old brick church dressed in their Sunday best. Come to find out, that was the very church that Martin Luther King Jr. preached at and the state capital building right across from it was where he delivered his powerful speech, “How long? Not long!” after the march for civil rights from Selma to Montgomery.

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (9)

OUTFIT DETAILS: Red Bowler Hat // Gingham Dress & Leggings-H&M // Boots-Kohl’s

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (10)

{SOUTHERN MOUNTAINS} The mountains of Northern Georgia were blooming with gorgeous spring blossoms when we arrive to our final destination in Cleveland, Georgia. Working on a historic farm + living in the south definitely calls for plaid and red don’t you think?

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (11)

OUTFIT DETAILS: Red Bandana-Walmart // Red Denim Jacket-Savers // Gray Plaid Shirt-Ross // High Waisted Black Pants // Biker Boots

usa roadtrip lookbook_wm (12)

It felt surreal reaching our final destination on the other side of the country after a 1 week road trip. Workaway is something we had dreamed about doing for over a year, when we lived in Sweden, and that dream finally came true in the most unexpected way. I can’t wait to share my new adventures on the East Coast and our time at Mountain Laurel Farm through this wonderful cultural work exchange program. We’re already having a blast living the farm life and learning the wedding/B&B business in hopes of becoming innkeepers ourselves someday!

Bye For Now,

New Year, New Adventure! (Dec-Feb Outfits)

It’s a new year and it’s time for me to find my new adventure! But don’t worry, I’m not abandoning Sheaves, but things are going to change around here…

december outfits_wm (2)

For the last 6 months (since moving from Sweden to CA) I’ve enjoyed making my monthly outfits posts, it was a fun way to see my style evolve and chronicle my ensembles and the different places I went. Last year was also when I started this blog and YouTube channel as a way to express more of the things I’m passionate about that weren’t exactly suited for Tales of Sheaves.

I was happy to complete my 4 seasons of lookbooks from my time in Sweden and when we moved to California I started a new venture, my #ROADTORETRO! The goal of this series was to share what I learn on my road to rediscover my style as well as my healing journey (inside and out) and my first step was to chop off my long locks! I had fun playing with my new hair and getting different looks with pieces I’ve had in my wardrobe as well as slowing adding some new thrifted ones. I was fortunate to even add a few new retro pieces from Pinup Girl Clothing that I had been wanting for a long time.

december outfits_wm (1)

Right after Halloween was over, life started changing for my husband & I. He had worked a great job during the fall but we started feeling the effects of starting over in another country. Also, we were feeling the post-Halloween/pre-Christmas depression since the holidays are always hard for us because one of us is always away from their family. Beginning of December, a dear friend of ours passed away and we were grateful to get a chance to say goodbye but it felt the beginning of our spiral down that led to us both getting sick at different times and a lot of heavy sadness…

I finally started feeling strong enough in my hand since my surgery and I start looking for work with no success thus far. Then came the new year and Jonas was also out of a job again and we really started to feel the strain between family and our financial situation.

december outfits_wm (3)

We researched jobs and apartments like crazy to realize a few very sobering facts that are working against us. Because of my surgery I can’t go back (nor did I plan to anyway) being a hairstylist yet that is all the job experience and college education I have. Jonas has been turned down by several jobs because he hasn’t lived in America long enough. We both don’t have any credit history because we traveled so much and therefore it’s impossible to find an apartment.

We reached out to friends and family which didn’t lead to anything promising. It has gotten so bad that we were just going to pack up and move out of state because the cost of living in CA is so outrageous, but I wasn’t prepared to leave my family so soon. All in all, we feel absolutely stuck at the bottom of a very deep dark hole and have no idea how we are going to crawl out.

december outfits_wm (4)

Because of all this stress, I’ve had little to no inspiration to put outfits together let alone take photos and blog about them. Besides, I was wearing the same things over and over again and realized I was failing as a fashion blogger since I had no new clothes to share. Yes, I’m all for mixing and matching your pieces to get new outfits but the harsh truth is I even ran out of those and can’t even afford to shop at my favorite thrift store, Savers, anymore…and let’s not even talk about the weight I’ve gained over the holidays and from all the strain.

december outfits_wm (6)

I’m not sharing all this for you to feel sorry for me, I’m sharing because I don’t mind being an open book and I want to be transparent. I started to blog also to share the ups and downs of my journey to bring hope to others and all though my #roadtoretro seems to have flat-lined and almost died, I believe it’s all apart of the journey!

december outfits_wm (5)

I’m a firm believer in following your dreams but staying flexible, because you never know what on your journey may lead you to a new unexpected dream that was better than you could have ever imagined. That’s what gives me hope during the darkest of times and helps me to not see my misadventures as “failures” but as all apart of the adventure!

feb 2016 outfits

So, with all that being said I’m not sure what this year holds for Sheaves because the winds of change have been blowing and I welcome the new opportunities and I’m not sure yet how that will translate to my blog and YouTube channel. However, I have been using SNAPCHAT a lot since I got a new phone which has been a great way to instantly share my experiences, feelings, joys, and the occasional foodie posts 😉 I’d love for you to join me there: lindsay.sheaves! Thank you all for the support along the way and I look forward to the new adventures ahead! Bye for now,

November Outfits

Hello dearies! After all the events of Halloween time in October I must say it took me quite some time to recover! Jonas & I have also been trying to get on our feet again and therefore I’m afraid my outfits of November are some what lacking. Though this month has held some really rough moments in the spirit of Thanksgiving I want to remain grateful and leave you a quote from one of my favorite Irving Berlin songs:

“Got no checkbooks got no banks
Still I’d like to express my thanks
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night
And with the sun in the morning
And the moon in the evening
I’m all right”

{MAKING CHRISTMAS} I was asked my my friend Savannah of Walt’s Classics to be apart of her vlogmas on her YouTube channel! I decided to do a ride through the Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland and naturally I had to film in a Jack Skellington inspired DisneyBound outfit.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Red Hair Scarf-Doll Me Up Inc. // Red Denim Jacket-Savers // Gingham Dress & Leggings-H&M // Boots-Kohl’s

november outfits_wm (7)

{OLD WORLD VILLAGE} On the anniversary of Beauty and the Beast and on the occasion that we went to a European Christmas market at the Old World Village in Huntington Beach, I put together a gothic enchanted red rose inspired outfit where I felt like I was in my own little provincial town.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Rose Headband-DIY // Rose Chocker-Made by a Friend // Black Lace Blouse-Savers // Velvet Flocked Skirt // Black Tights // Shoes-TUK Footwear

If you would like to see more photos + vlog of my November adventures with Jonas celebrating Thanksgiving in California for the first time in 3 years, just click HERE! Also, now that I’ve gotten a new phone I’ve been having a lot of fun using SNAPCHAT (lindsay.sheaves) where I share more snapshots of my daily life and personal things, but it only lasts 24 hours!

I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for YOU! Bye For Now,
