GOTHIC VALENTINE WINTER OOTD + Sourpuss Clothing Dress Review!

Curiouser & curiouser…

Here’s my gothic take on a wintery Valentine’s day OOTD featuring the “Fatally Yours” dress provided by Sourpuss Clothing which is perfect for us spooky gals who aren’t into pink and Valentine’s Day!

As soon as I saw this dress it made me think of the Queen of Hearts and Tim Burton’s Wonderland style and I knew how I wanted to style it! This dress could be done up in so many ways but since it’s still wintertime here in New York and Valentine’s day is around the corner I thought it’d be fitting to do a romantic gothic retro look.

This style of dress is new to Sourpuss and I can’t even express the wonderful feeling I had when I zipped up this XL and it fit like a glove! I really adore the gathered material on the bust area, it’s so flattering for my figure.

The hearts & daggers design was created by a Philly tattoo artist and the print even has tiny hearts and stars which is a very unique touch. The anatomic hearts are adorable and the daggers have a very classic feel to it.

sourpuss-valentine_lindsay-of-sheaves_wm-9It comes with a built in waistband that looks like you’re already wearing a belt. I of course always feel the need to add a vinyl one of my own but it looks just as nice without it.

I really adore the length of the dress, how it comes to the knees, and has a fun mesh lining which I’ve never seen on a dress before. The dress is 100% polyester, has the softest feeling, and I love how it flows as you walk…so light and has a little stretch!

Now let’s talk about how I styled this rocking dress! My black velvet vintage style turban with diamond shaped vintage silver brooch with black onyx center is my go to in the winter. Both items I found separately on Etsy.

My gothic lolita coat is from Pyon Pyon which I ordered from while I was living in Sweden and I have done a whole review on it + some winter fashion tips I picked up which you can see HERE.

My lovely pen pal friend from Germany (@ladydewilde on Instagram) sent me these charming handmade “Alice in Wonderland” jewelry which turned out to the the crowning touch to this outfit. The earrings say “Curiouser & Curiouser” and the necklace, “We’re All Mad Here”. I mean, how serendipitous is that?!

My husband & I really lucked out with finding the perfect shooting location to fit the mood I had envisioned. Lasdon Park nailed it with it’s twisty trees and old statues.

Later that evening I changed up my outfit details in the car since we were attending a black & white winter gala where Jonas’ “Sleepy Hollow” & “Red Riding Hood” art was on display. I realized that I too was wearing art and oh, how that red POPPED against all the b&w!

Hope this review of the new Sourpuss Clothing dress was helpful and that you got some outfit inspiration for your Valentine’s day whether that be with your gal pals, man, or even alone. Know that you’re awesome no matter what your relationship status is! Bye For Now,

New Year, New Adventure! (Dec-Feb Outfits)

It’s a new year and it’s time for me to find my new adventure! But don’t worry, I’m not abandoning Sheaves, but things are going to change around here…

december outfits_wm (2)

For the last 6 months (since moving from Sweden to CA) I’ve enjoyed making my monthly outfits posts, it was a fun way to see my style evolve and chronicle my ensembles and the different places I went. Last year was also when I started this blog and YouTube channel as a way to express more of the things I’m passionate about that weren’t exactly suited for Tales of Sheaves.

I was happy to complete my 4 seasons of lookbooks from my time in Sweden and when we moved to California I started a new venture, my #ROADTORETRO! The goal of this series was to share what I learn on my road to rediscover my style as well as my healing journey (inside and out) and my first step was to chop off my long locks! I had fun playing with my new hair and getting different looks with pieces I’ve had in my wardrobe as well as slowing adding some new thrifted ones. I was fortunate to even add a few new retro pieces from Pinup Girl Clothing that I had been wanting for a long time.

Right after Halloween was over, life started changing for my husband & I. He had worked a great job during the fall but we started feeling the effects of starting over in another country. Also, we were feeling the post-Halloween/pre-Christmas depression since the holidays are always hard for us because one of us is always away from their family. Beginning of December, a dear friend of ours passed away and we were grateful to get a chance to say goodbye but it felt the beginning of our spiral down that led to us both getting sick at different times and a lot of heavy sadness…

I finally started feeling strong enough in my hand since my surgery and I start looking for work with no success thus far. Then came the new year and Jonas was also out of a job again and we really started to feel the strain between family and our financial situation.

december outfits_wm (3)

We researched jobs and apartments like crazy to realize a few very sobering facts that are working against us. Because of my surgery I can’t go back (nor did I plan to anyway) being a hairstylist yet that is all the job experience and college education I have. Jonas has been turned down by several jobs because he hasn’t lived in America long enough. We both don’t have any credit history because we traveled so much and therefore it’s impossible to find an apartment.

We reached out to friends and family which didn’t lead to anything promising. It has gotten so bad that we were just going to pack up and move out of state because the cost of living in CA is so outrageous, but I wasn’t prepared to leave my family so soon. All in all, we feel absolutely stuck at the bottom of a very deep dark hole and have no idea how we are going to crawl out.

Because of all this stress, I’ve had little to no inspiration to put outfits together let alone take photos and blog about them. Besides, I was wearing the same things over and over again and realized I was failing as a fashion blogger since I had no new clothes to share. Yes, I’m all for mixing and matching your pieces to get new outfits but the harsh truth is I even ran out of those and can’t even afford to shop at my favorite thrift store, Savers, anymore…and let’s not even talk about the weight I’ve gained over the holidays and from all the strain.

december outfits_wm (6)

I’m not sharing all this for you to feel sorry for me, I’m sharing because I don’t mind being an open book and I want to be transparent. I started to blog also to share the ups and downs of my journey to bring hope to others and all though my #roadtoretro seems to have flat-lined and almost died, I believe it’s all apart of the journey!

december outfits_wm (5)

I’m a firm believer in following your dreams but staying flexible, because you never know what on your journey may lead you to a new unexpected dream that was better than you could have ever imagined. That’s what gives me hope during the darkest of times and helps me to not see my misadventures as “failures” but as all apart of the adventure!

feb 2016 outfits

So, with all that being said I’m not sure what this year holds for Sheaves because the winds of change have been blowing and I welcome the new opportunities and I’m not sure yet how that will translate to my blog and YouTube channel. However, I have been using SNAPCHAT a lot since I got a new phone which has been a great way to instantly share my experiences, feelings, joys, and the occasional foodie posts 😉 I’d love for you to join me there: lindsay.sheaves! Thank you all for the support along the way and I look forward to the new adventures ahead! Bye for now,

Lady Poinsettia of the Winter Woods

lady poinsettia_holiday nouveau
‘Twas the end of December and snow had made its first entrance…and what an entrance! Suddenly the land was covered in white and crystals sparkled in the air…this could only mean one thing to us…PHOTO ADVENTURE! I had been wanting to do some photos inspired by this lovely art by Angela R. Sasser entitled “Holiday Nouveau” for quite some time so my husband & I jumped at the opportunity! Our excitement must have clouded our judgement that going out in -12C/10F was a good idea. Unfortunately, it was so cold that my eyes started to water uncontrollably and my hands were so cold they burned so we were only able to grab a few decent shots. I hope that the few who made it to the editing process were worth it and I’m at least happy to have paid a small tribute to this wonderful piece of art that so inspired me!

Winter Lookbook

Winter is probably my least favorite season to dress for; I find all the layers, scarves, and gloves to be suffocating though I can agree pretty to look at, as is the snow! Despite my distaste for wintertime, I managed to put together 3 winter outfits with 1 common theme…VELVET! I didn’t plan that, it just turned out that way! Also, I must admit that though I prefer greener pastures I couldn’t be more pleased with the 3 winter wonderland locations we found (Prosten Pihl’s Gård, Öster-Malma Slott, & Södertuna Slott) and it truly felt like a walking in a snowy fairytale.

If you fancied any of the items I wore you maybe be able to find it for yourself in the outfit details below! *Warning: I buy a lot of things on eBay because for me it has been hard to find clothing in my style or at an affordable price in Sweden*
OUTFIT 1: I bought this dress to wear for Christmas and I got so many compliments…even from strangers, and that rarely happens in Sweden!
-Red & Black Velvet Polka Dot Dress: eBay
-Winter Boots
-Snow White Silhouette Necklace: Etsy
I couldn’t be more obsessed with this necklace, I feel it totally sums up me!
This location gave me Beauty and the Beast vibes for some reason, I think it’s the hedges and cypress trees!
OUTFIT 2: I felt like a Little “Black” Riding Hood in this outfit (notice even the wolf statue in the background!) walking in a winter fairytale.
-Pyon Pyon LY-024 Gothic Winter Coat:
THIS COAT…has saved my style this winter. I’ve now lived through 3 Swedish winters and the first 2 I only had this big ugly typical puffy winter jacket that I felt only took away and covered up my style. I decided this last winter that I was going to do something about this and found my dream coat and it was on sale, so I snatched this baby up and have worn it all winter!
As much as I love this coat and feel like a life size gothic lolita doll I do have a few reservations about it. The shoulders are quite tight as is the bust area when buttoned but despite some of the drawbacks the tradeoff of feeling like I’m actually wearing my style has helped me immensely to get through winter!
-Leather Gloves
Also, this coat is so fun to spin in!
-Faux Fur Boot Cuffs
How dreamy is this mansion? I felt like I had tripped into Narnia with all the ornate lamp posts!
-Vintage Style Turban: Etsy
I’m kind of obsessed with this turban, I think it’s so fun mixing gothic and vintage inspired looks together to get a unique outfit.
 -Vintage Brooch: Etsy
Gotta love this art deco style silver brooch with black onyx stone
OUTFIT 3: This was my Valentines Day oufit; lots of velvet, pink, and red! My husband & I had a lovely and fancy high tea at this gorgeous castle and it was the perfect setting for my 3rd winter outfit.
-Red Rose Headband: Etsy
I actually held a giveaway on Instagram for this headband I made that perfectly matched my outfit for Valentines Day.
-Red Rose & Black Lace Chocker: J. Cederstrom Design
My lovely and talented friend Jeanette made this beautiful gothic chocker and I would really recommend checking out her design page, she makes the most beautiful dresses as well!
-Pink Velvet Top: eBay
A funny story about this piece that is actually a dress. I have learned my less about buying dresses on eBay from China! They always look so cute on the models but on me they never fit right and there seems to always be something wrong with them. With this one not only did the listing say the dress was RED (and turned out to be a very bright pink) but the dress part was sooo short I had to stuff it under a skirt. It worked out though in the end when I realized it would be the perfect Valentine’s Day outfit!
-Corset Belt: eBay
-Velvet Lace Skirt: Fashion store in California
-Victorian Style Boots: Funtasma
I really love the thorny rose bush branches and lamp post in this photo, a HUGE thank you to my wonderful husband for shooting the video and taking the photos for my winter lookbook!
I hope you enjoyed seeing the outfits in action in my winter lookbook video as well the photos. This is just one of 4 Seasons of lookbooks I did in Sweden so feel free to check out my other spring, summer, and fall lookbook blog posts and videos on my YouTube channel! If you’d like to see some fun BTS from my husband & I in a winter wonderland, you can watch HERE and HERE on Tales of Sheaves.

Don’t forget to follow me on for more fashion & outfits! Which wintertime outfit AND location did you like the best?!?

Bye for now,
